About Legetyo Queens

Our Story, Mission, and Leadership

Our Story

The journey of Legetyo Queens from a local initiative to a global movement.

How It All Began

Founded in 2017 by Rev. Emily Lagat and launched in December 2018, Legetyo Queens began as a Kenyan initiative with global aspirations. The organization takes its name from the "Legetyet," a traditional beaded leather belt symbolizing maternal protection in Kalenjin culture.

Inspired by Ephesians 6:14, we've grown from a local women's group to an international movement with chapters across four continents. Our programs address the unique challenges facing Kalenjin, Maasai, and Turkana women through:

  • Leadership development
  • Financial literacy programs
  • Health and wellness initiatives
  • Cultural preservation
  • Spiritual growth opportunities

Our Community

We serve women from Kalenjin sub-tribes (Nandi, Kipsigis, Tugen, Pokot, Sabaot, Ogiek, Endorois, Sabiny, Lembus, Marakwet) and our sisters from Maasai and Turkana communities.

Rev. Emily Lagat

A Leader Rooted in Faith, Resilience & Empowerment

Born in Kitale, Kenya, Rev. Emily Lagat's life journey reflects unwavering determination and divine purpose. Her early years were shaped by the ethnic clashes of 1991, which forced her family to relocate—an experience that deepened her compassion for marginalized communities. After migrating to the United States, she balanced motherhood, education, and a calling to uplift others, ultimately birthing Legetyo Queens Global in 2018.

From Local Advocate to Global Visionary

What began as a prayer-driven initiative for Kalenjin, Maasai, and Turkana women has flourished into an international movement under Rev. Emily's leadership. With chapters in the U.S., Australia, and Canada.

Rev. Emily's expertise spans:

  • Education: Master's in Healthcare Administration, Human Services, and Business Management.
  • Media: Former TV anchor, radio broadcaster, and broadcast executive.
  • Ministry: Award-winning spiritual leader (DEAR Award 2016), prophetic voice, and founder of MANA Ministries.
"I AM THAT I AM"
This mantra embodies her belief in God's power to transform lives—a principle that fuels Legetyo Queens' mission.

Why She Leads

  • Servant-hearted humility: Prioritizing community needs over personal acclaim.
  • Holistic empowerment: Addressing women's spiritual, economic, and social well-being.
  • Bridging divides: Connecting diaspora women with their roots through mentorship and advocacy.
"All things are possible through Christ Jesus"

A Message from our President

Words of inspiration and welcome from Rev. Emily Lagat.

Dear Legetyo Queens,

It is with immense joy and gratitude that I welcome you to the Legetyo Queens family!

As President of this dynamic organization, I am honored to stand alongside each one of you as we journey together in uplifting, inspiring, and empowering Kalenjin, Maasai, and Turkana women across the world.

Legetyo Queens was founded with a deep belief in the strength, resilience, and beauty of Kalenjin, Maasai, and Turkana women. Our name, "Legetyo," symbolizes the protective and nurturing spirit that lives within us—just as the traditional Legetyet belt protects our children, so do we, as women, protect, uplift, and support one another.

Here, we celebrate every woman's potential, talents, and unique story. Whether you are joining us to seek personal growth, leadership opportunities, spiritual enrichment, or to connect with your cultural roots, I want you to know that you are stepping into a community that cherishes and believes in you.

At Legetyo Queens, we are building something powerful: a sisterhood that transcends borders and backgrounds, a network of women who are passionate about bringing positive change to their lives and the lives of those around them. We are united by our desire to embrace who we are as Kalenjin, Maasai, and Turkana women and to cultivate a future where each of us can thrive—both individually and collectively.

This organization is more than a space for empowerment—it is a sanctuary for women to grow, to lead, to heal, and to inspire. Together, we will rise, embracing the strength that God has gifted us and walking boldly in the truth that we are capable of achieving greatness.

Thank you for being part of this beautiful vision. I am excited to see the incredible impact we will make as a united force of empowered, courageous, and resilient Legetyo Queens.

With all my heart, I welcome you.

In sisterhood and strength,
Rev. Emily Lagat
